There are kayaks, paddleboards, and two paddle boats, all available for guests. There are bonfire rings and plenty firewood. The swimming is amazing, and the petoskey stone hunting is pretty good too. There are gardens and forests, a tennis court and playground, and lots of lawn space for children to play outside, along with just as many quiet places to find a bit of privacy.
In fewer than five minutes you can find yourself in Leland among the shops, galleries, Fishtown, and restaurants, or within the bounds of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore with all of its trails, dunes, breathtaking vistas, inland lakes, and beaches. Wineries abound nearby, as do bicycle trails, golf courses, rivers, and museums.
Four generations of Jolliffes have perfected the art of hosting.
After flying his way through WWII in a P-51, Keith Jolliffe, with his wife Ruth, and his parents, Grace and Evered, landed on the picturesque Leelanau Peninsula. In 1956, they purchased this spectacular lakefront property, and The Jolli-Lodge was born. Off-season, Keith taught school in Glen Arbor, while Ruth worked as a secretary at Leland Public School. Over time, demand for lakefront lodging grew, and so did The Jolli-Lodge. The stable and carriage house were converted to rental units. A building was constructed to house summer staff, but by the time it was finished, demand for lodging had increased so much that they rented that out too. Grandma Grace built a house with three guest units (“Grace House”), eventually camping out on the porch to rent out her own apartment as well.
We live on-site, so we are always at your service. We also know when to give our guests their own space.
Keith and Ruth’s children, Greg and Pam, were raised at The Jolli-Lodge. Now, Greg is raising a family on the property as well. On Monday evenings in the summer, there’s a beach bonfire complete with complimentary s’mores for everyone. Daily sunset gatherings on the lawn are a great time to grab your favorite local libation and chat with your hosts and fellow guests.
The atmosphere at The Jolli-Lodge is decidedly laid back.
Sometimes we go for days without putting on shoes.
Our guest units are each unique.
Our cottages and condos are the epitome of up-north, vintage style. Careful updates are ongoing – such as comfortable beds, televisions, and free Wi-Fi, but the classic authenticity remains intact. All of our cottages and condos have lake views, full kitchens, and BBQ grills. Many have fireplaces.
The main lodge, with its spacious lakefront porch, grand piano, ample seating, and stone fireplace, is a northern Michigan classic.
The guest rooms in the main lodge come in a variety of configurations. For these units, we provide morning coffee, toaster, microwave, and a refrigerator. All Jolli-Lodge guests are welcome to enjoy the main lodge during their stay with us.
